Lillie Ruth Newell Holmes, 71, of Goldsboro passed away Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. She was the daughter of the late Simeon B. Newell II and Louise Wiggs Newell, and was the widow of Edward Earl Holmes. She was the retired manager of Handy Mart #4, and a past member of the Eastern Carolina Vintage Farm Equipment Club.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Lewis Forsythe officiating. Committal services will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7-9 P.M., and at other times at the home of her daughter, Sharon Radford.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by her son, Michael Edward Holmes and wife, Angie of Goldsboro; daughter, Sharon Holmes Radford and husband, Chris of Goldsboro; brothers, S.B. Newell III of Pikeville, Edward Newell and wife, Joy of Goldsboro, and Randy Newell and special friend, Phyllis of Goldsboro; sisters, Eleanor Smith and husband, David of Goldsboro, Lois Hannum and husband, Bob of Goldsboro, and Ann Olive of Goldsboro; sister in law, Lucille Winders; grandchildren, Brandon Holmes and special friend, Taylor Mitchell, Austin Holmes, Chase Mozingo, Clay Mozingo, and Macy Mozingo; great grandchild, Sutter Holmes; a close friend, Wilma Strickland; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, David Henry Newell preceded her in death.
