Elizabeth (Bette) Atkins Vega

Elizabeth (Bette) Atkins Vega, was born January 04, 1949 in Amherst, Massachusetts to William Chandler and Marion Culver Atkins.  Bette passed to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, on June 13, 2018.  She was a graduate of Amherst High School, in Amherst, Massachusetts and attended Northampton Junior College.

 

Bette had a varied career throughout her life which provided her an opportunity to travel across many parts of the country enjoying the cultural differences she encountered.  She was prone to live a quieter life in her later years and contributed back to society after her retirement by volunteering in Goldsboro, to successfully help those trying to learn English as a second language.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles and crafts.

 

Bette was married to the deceased Norberto Vega where they lived in Naples, FL., before her moving to Goldsboro, NC.

 

She is survived by her siblings, Chandler Atkins of Queensbury, NY; Dr. James (Sherry) Atkins of Goldsboro, NC; Linda (Floyd) Thompson, of Warrenton, VA and Holly (Charles) Pelissier of Nipomo, CA.

 

Memorial services will be held privately.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southeast Cancer Cares “Cure for the Colors”, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, NC 27534, an organization that helps cancer patients during their battle.

 

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
