Joyce Smith Decker, 91, passed away early Saturday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Joyce was born in Putnam County, Indiana on April 24, 1927 to the late Charles Henry Smith and Hazel Irene Miller Smith. She was married to the late Rev. Robert Wayne Decker. Joyce found herself most inspired by her mother’s role of ministry in the home and church. After she married Robert, they embarked on a life of ministry together. Joyce proved through the years to be a true anchor and helpmate to Robert in his life’s calling. She delighted in supporting Robert, the children and the grandchildren in all of their endeavors, and took great pleasure in watching them all blossom and succeed.
A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Christian Powell and Rev. Walter Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Joyce is survived by her children, Sharon D. Massey and husband James of Princeton, Duane K. Decker and wife Deborah of Ellsworth, Maine, Jeanette D. Ludwig and husband Eric of Goldsboro, Rhonda D. Wooten of Goldsboro and Melody D. Parrish and husband Kevin of Goldsboro; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Malmstrom of Visalia, CA.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Wasson, Louise Mitchell and Maxine Booker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 1200 W. Grantham Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
