Franklin “Frank” Kirkland, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Frank was born in Douglas, Georgia on April 13, 1935 to the late Ira C. and Louise Hilton Kirkland. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 23 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant. Frank’s valor and skill was recognized with numerous decorations. Following his military career, he became a managing partner with Town and Country Realty in Goldsboro. He was a past president of the Goldsboro Board of Realtors and past Goldsboro Realtor of the Year. Frank was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. He was devoted to his church, served as a deacon, and was involved in many of the ministries at the church. Frank lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. He was a member of the Goldsboro Downtown Lions Club where he served as a past president and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
A service to celebrate Frank’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Downtown Goldsboro with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. The family will greet friends Saturday following the service at the church. A private interment with full military honors will be held at the Eastern Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.
Frank is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Coleman Kirkland; daughter, Donna Andrews and husband Peter of Willow Springs; son, William Kirkland and wife Cindy of Fort Wayne, IN; sister, Barbara Jean Clark of Tampa, FL; brother, Ira “Claude” Kirkland and wife Carolyn of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Ashley Boyd and husband Chris, Kyle Hankins, Justin Hankins and wife Brittany, Ashley Andrews, Ally Andrews, Kristin Galler and husband Charles, Lauren Adams and husband Chip and Erin Hitt and husband Ryan; and elven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Frank’s memory to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
