John Robert Kennedy passed away Saturday surrounded by his family at home. He was born in Wayne county to the late John B. and Hazel Lambert Kennedy and was married to Judy Morrison Kennedy for 60 years. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Franklin Bakery/Flowers Baking Co. Mr. Kennedy was a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He loved everyone and was always willing to give a helping hand.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Sherman and Reverend Cliff Harwood officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A committal service will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. in Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to his wife, Judy, Mr. Kennedy is survived by a son, John E. Kennedy and wife, Marie of Goldsboro, daughters, Sherry Marie Biddle and husband, Richard of Winfield, KS; Angie Kennedy Herring and husband, Danny Ray of Goldsboro; and loved as a daughter, Donna Pearce of Princeton; brothers, Durwood Kennedy and wife, Peggy of Goldsboro, George Kennedy and wife, Jean of Pikeville, and Glenn Kennedy of Goldsboro; a sister, Edna Capps of Goldsboro, grandchildren, Jessica Kennedy and Quinton, Charles Robert Kennedy Jr. and Tiffany, Matthew Davis and wife, Megan, Kelly Kennedy Davis, Jennifer Turner and husband, Timmy, Danyle Davis and husband, Matt, Robert Ray Herring and wife, Stacey, Ashley Kelly and husband, Brent, Kaylee Dillard, Danny Lynch and wife, Tosha, Shannon Lynch, David Lynch, Vanessa Lynch, and Felicia Lynch; great grandchildren, A.J. Green, Mason Kennedy, Allie Marie Davis, Bailee Henderson, Kenlee Turner, Anna Davis, Sophia Davis, Kelsey Herring, Hunter Herring(on the way), Asher Kelly, Mykayla Lynch, and D.J. Lynch; a sister in law JoAnn Kennedy of Goldsboro; and nieces, Phyllis Mozingo and Renee Kennedy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by a son, Charles Robert Kennedy and a brother, Walter Lee Kennedy.
The family would like to thank the 3rd floor and 7th floor staff at Wayne UNC Health Care and the staff of Community Hospice or their loving care for Mr. Kennedy.
