Shirley Ruth Potts Peek, 52, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born in Wayne County on November 19, 1963 to the late Hugh Norman Potts, Jr. and Bessie Parrish Potts. She was married to the late Sgt. David James Peek. Shirley enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends. However her greatest joy was when she was able to share her loving heart in her writings and poetry.
A service celebrating Shirley’s life will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Ginn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home. Interment will be on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Brogden Cemetery in Dudley.
Shirley is survived by her sisters, Ginger Daniels and husband Billy, Debbie Mitchell, Nancy Potts, Mary Horne and fiancée Wayne, and Angie Holmes and husband Michael; nieces and nephews, Anthony Tilghman, Miranda Potts and fiancée Michael, Wynter Potts, Brittany Butts and husband Ryan, Hanna Horne, Brandon Holmes and fiancée Taylor, Austin Holmes, Hunter Langston, Julie Rose, and Harlan Daniels; great nieces and nephews, Jarrod Tilghman, Adalyn Tilghman, Sophia Butts, Eliza Butts, and Sutter Holmes.
In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Earl Potts, Sr. and a great nephew, Wayne Earl Potts, Jr.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Jason Boyd and the staff at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center. Love and heartfelt thanks is also expressed to the caregivers with Community Hospice Care.
