Barbara Jean Strickland Hicks, 80, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at Wayne UNC Hospital surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born in Wilson County, NC on October 20, 1937 to the late Hattie Blanche Strickland and William Larry Strickland. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Friday, February 16, 2018 at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Barbara’s life at 2:00 PM in the chapel with Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Pikeville Cemetery.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Donna Hicks Cockrell and husband David of Rocky Mount, Linda Hicks Coston and husband James of Pikeville and Kathy Hicks Bennett and husband David of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Joshua Sullivan, Jeremy Sullivan, Justin Coston, Nicholas Coston and Sarah Bennett; step granddaughters, Sarah and Katie Cockrell; a great grandson, Bryson Sullivan and a special first cousin, Dixie of Wilson.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Elton Strickland and the father of her children, Donald Hicks.
