Melvin Dees Anderson passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Melvin was born in Wayne County, NC on November 7, 1931 to the late John Henry and Sallie A. Anderson. He was married to Jean Turnage Anderson for 62 years.
In his early years, Melvin helped with the family BBQ business; then was a successful farmer for many years. Later he enjoyed his garden and sharing it with family and friends. More recently, friends started to notice his absence from his front porch swing as declining health kept him inside more.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 10, 2018, beginning at 1:00 PM followed by a service to celebrate Melvin’s life at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Tony McLamb and Dr. Alan Lamm. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to his wife, Melvin is survived by a daughter, Karen A. Utley, Fayetteville, NC and a brother, David Paul Anderson of Pikeville.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a son, Andy Melvin Anderson on November 7, 2006; son-in-law, Ray C. Utley; brothers, Malcolm Anderson and Robert Anderson and sisters, Ruth Williamson, Fannie Isler, Nellie Taylor, Lois Bailey and Sadie Sullivan.
