Albert E. “Al” Johnson, 81, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at his home. Al was born in Wayne County on December 10, 1936 in Wayne County to the late Luther Johnson and Sophia Collins Johnson.
Al was the owner of Johnson Construction Company, Johnson Farms, and co-owner of Elite Fashions, Inc. in Goldsboro, along with his wife, Evelyn. He had served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 92 and was involved at the Boy’s Club in Goldsboro. Al was a Cold War veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Iceland. Al was a founding member of his church, Goldsboro Wesleyan Church, now The Hydrant Church where he served numerous terms as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of the Local Board of Administration along with service as on the board of the NC East District of Januaryby a service to celebrate Al’s life in the chapel with Rev. Tim Fox and Rev. Mike McAuley officiating. A private burial will be held Saturday at Wayne Memorial Park.
Al is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Evelyn Hill Johnson; several special nieces and nephews; and many others who called him “Uncle Al.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Johnson and J.B. Johnson.
