Elwood Warren Rollins, 82, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County on October 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Clifton Warren Rollins and Vida Hadnott Rollins.
Warren was a 1953 graduate of Goldsboro High School. He was a member of the Goldmasquers and several other mixed choirs. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956.
One who always could be found hard at work, Warren was a distributor for the News and Observer, was the owner and operator of Cabbage Patch Furniture Store, and later worked with Roger Furniture, Down East Furniture, and Bobby Denning Furniture. He also worked part-time with Hill’s Tire and Auto Service. When he was not working, he could often be found on one of the local area golf courses.
Warren was a longtime member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
A service to celebrate Warren’s life will be held Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Mike McAuley and Rev. Fred Crank officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Willow Dale Cemetery.
Warren is survived by his wife, Jean Wilkins Rollins; daughter, Vida Kay Rollins; sons, Gary Rollins and Steve Rollins; brother, Clay Rollins; Sisters, Amy Bowyer, Elza Holliday, and Alyene Pollock; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Allen Rollins; brother, Haywood Rollins; and step-mother, Flora Rollins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
