Barbara Deems Hood Hatch was born in Wayne County to the late William Graham and Gertrude Prince Hood.
Barbara attended Walnut St., William St. and Goldsboro High School (Class of 1948). She went to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and transferred to East Carolina Teachers College in Greenville, NC
She married the late Donald Louis (Buster) Hatch, Sr. and they had three children – Donald Louis Hatch, Jr. (Elizabeth), Robert Norman Hatch and Julianne Hatch Haynes.
Her late brother, William Graham Hood, Jr. and late sister-in-law, Dot had two children – William Graham Hood III (Vickie) and Gayle Davis (Jeff).
Donald worked for Quaker Oats Co. for 35 years and they lived in four states. Barbara taught school in Palatine, IL and Dunwoody, GA. When they retired, they moved into her birth home in Goldsboro, NC
Barbara was active in several churches – including Kingswood United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, GA and First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, NC. Other groups she joined were Daughters of American Revolution – David Williams Chapter, Goldsboro Women’s Club, Goldsboro Garden Club, Wayne County Historical Association, Old Waynesborough Commission and Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary.
She leaves three wonderful grandchildren – Andy Hatch (Andrea), Alex Haynes (Alison) and Annsley Haynes Mathis (Bo). There are four great-grandchildren – Charlie and Aylin Hatch, Emory and Mary Catherine Haynes.

The visitation will be at 504 N. Jackson St., Goldsboro from 5:30 – 8:00pm on Wednesday, June 15th. The funeral will be 11:00am on Thursday, June 16th at First Baptist Church at 125 S. John St. in Goldsboro. The burial will be at Willow Dale Cemetery following the funeral.
