Theodore William McKenrick, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at his home.
Theodore was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on December 22, 1932 to the late Theodore William McKenrick, Sr. and Janet Syler McKenrick. He was a graduate of Gettysburg College where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Theodore lived his dream proudly serving in the United States Air Force. He began his military career in flight school and later transferred into military intelligence. Theodore will always be remembered for his incredible intelligence, his wonderful sense of humor and his patriotism. He protected his country and her allies during the Vietnam War and retired as Major, in Goldsboro, after 21 years of service. Theodore’s valor and skill was recognized with numerous decorations. After retirement, he enjoyed serving his community by working with the Community Soup Kitchen in Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at Seymour Funeral Home with a service to celebrate Theodore’s life at 7:00 PM in the chapel. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 22, 2017 in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Theodore is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Elmore McKenrick; daughter, Jane Deshong; son, Roderick William McKenrick and wife Janette Smith McKenrick; grandchildren, Amy Deshong, Amanda Deshong, Taryn McKenrick, Rylee McKenrick and Eryn McKenrick and great grandson, Kaleb Deshong. He is also survived by his brother, Donald McKenrick and wife Bonnie; sister, Sue Powell and husband Bill; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much.
